Abortion
Abortion, a safe
and legal way to end pregnancy. If you
start a paper off like that there is
already so much wrong with it, just in that first sentence. Is abortion really
safe? Should it really be legal? My opinion is no, abortion is not safe and no
it should not be legal. Many people would probably disagree with me, but do you
disagree because that is your honest opinion and you have done all the research
you could possibly do on the matter or do you disagree because you listen to
the lies the doctors tell you about it being “safe”?
One in three women have an abortion in their
lifetime. For many women, it is a life
changing event with significant physical, emotional, and spiritual
consequences. Some women who struggle with past abortions say they wish they
were told all the facts before they had one. There are all sorts of circumstances that people point
to as justification for their support of abortion, such as rape, unprotected
sex, unplanned pregnancy, and many more reasons. Abortion is more dangerous
than actual childbirth. Not only does abortion kill the baby but it is also
dangerous for the mother.
There are two types of abortion. An abortion
pill and an in clinic abortion. The abortion pill refers to a drug given to end
a pregnancy that is less than 49 days. The most commonly used drug is
mifepristone (Mifeprex). This drugs works by blocking the hormone progesterone,
which is needed to sustain a pregnancy. Once the hormone is cut off, the uterine
lining begins to shed, the cervix softens and there may be some bleeding.
Within 24 to 72 hours, a woman will take the second medication, misoprostol.
This medication will cause the uterus to contract, and the pregnancy will be
expelled, usually within 4 to 6 hours. These drugs are given over the counter,
no prescription is needed.
Then there are in
clinic abortions. There are many different procedures all depending on how long
you have been pregnant. The first trimester abortion is called “suction
abortion” a long thin tube is inserted into the uterus which is then attached
to a manual suction device and the embryo (aka the baby. The human living
inside you) is suctioned out like it is
nothing. Late in the first trimester the same procedure is done but it is more
painful and this time the suction pulls the fetus’ body apart and out of the
uterus. The doctor may also use a
loop-shaped tool, called a curette, to scrape any remaining fetal parts out of
the uterus. The second trimester procedure is done with the forceps to pull
fetal parts out through the cervical opening, as suction alone will not work
due to the fetus’ size. The doctor keeps track of what fetal parts have been
removed so that none are left inside. Later term methods typically take 2-3
days and are associated with increased risk to the life and health of the
mother. Because a live birth is possible, injections are given to cause fetal
death. The medications are either injected into the amniotic fluid, the
umbilical cord, or directly into the fetus’ heart. The remainder of the
procedure is the same as the second trimester.
Wow. Are you letting that sink in? Would you
still like to tell me that this is safe? Or that it should still be legal? That
sounds a lot like murder to me. If someone killed someone and disassemble their
body, everyone is disgusted and they think those people should be in prison for
life because only a gross person would do such a thing but they disassemble unborn
baby’s body in abortion all the time and
that is not considered murder. Now that is disgusting. It is because the doctors lie to you about the
baby not actually being a baby until birth. They are wrong, as soon as
conception occurs a baby is a baby. The baby’s features, including sex, hair
and eye color, are determined. Every new life begins at conception, it is a fact
of biology. Personhood is properly defined by membership in the human species
not by the stage of development. So guess what, abortion is murder.
Since January
1973, over 1 billion people have died
from abortion, that’s mothers and babies included. Abortion is the most commonly performed
procedure in the United States. 43% of women under the age of 45 have had an
abortion, 55% of those women will have a second abortion, 20% of those women
will have a third abortion. By age 45, four in ten women will have an abortion.
One in six women in the Evangelical Christian Church have had an abortion.
Those percentages are way too high. The majority of abortions are among women
between 19 -24 years of age. Why do they abort? Some cannot financially support
a child, some just aren’t ready to be parents, sometimes abortion is pushed on
these girls by their parents. No matter
what the circumstances are abortion is wrong and it is still murder.
Did you know
abortion effects men also? The Roe decision of 1973 removed the right of a man
to have any say in what happens to his baby. Men who have dealt with abortion
are 5 times angrier than other men, they have a difficulty concentrating on
their work and difficulty keeping a steady job after an abortion. Most men have
just as much if not more guilt than women about the abortion. The post-abortive
man can become frozen emotionally. The doctors tell the women that it is their
decision and that it won’t affect anybody else as long as they are happy with
their decision. Well there they are wrong again, not only are most women not
happy after abortion but it does effect the baby that was aborted because it is
no longer alive and it also effects the child’s father.
Abortion is an
extremely selfish act. Abortion is saying “I don’t care what anybody else
wants. I am going to do whatever I want to do, live my own life without having
a baby to hold me back, live my dreams, I don’t have money to “waste” on this
child, I don’t want people to look down on me.” If you look at all those
examples they all scream selfishness. I personally know teenage girls that have
gotten pregnant and kept the baby, graduated high school, and are now in
college working toward what they want to do, working at their job and also
taking wonderful care of their babies. So the baby “holding you back” isn’t
true. You have to work harder for what you want but in the end it’s more worth
it then just having an abortion. Abortion costs money, so if you get an
abortion you have money to take care of a child. People are stupid. If they
look down on you for having a baby that’s their problem. Don’t let what people
think of you have such a huge impact on whether you have an abortion or not.
Did you
also know that you can make those percentages of abortion go down? Even if you
yourself aren’t planning on an abortion, you can help someone who may be
thinking about it, stay away from it. Think about it, even if you only told one
person that real facts about abortion, you could save a life. That is a big
deal. If everyone told just one person everything there is to know, think about
how many lives would be saved. Think about how much the percentages would go
down. That to me is amazing, even if you aren’t the one having an abortion, you
have a huge impact on the matter. Whether they listen and take what you say
into consideration is up to them. But the fact that you actually say something
is huge. Don’t not say something because you think they won’t listen to you,
you might be surprised. Everyone has the power to save a life.
